Drove to Cape Foulwind after leaving Westport. We took a costal walk for an hour round the cliff tops looking out to the rough sea and rugged landscape. There is a large seal colony there and we saw lots of seals lazing on rocks and their pups playing around and trying to climb up the rocks. After, we drove down the coast which has been rated in the top 10 best Coastal drives in the world.
We stopped off near a beach and walked through jungle then on to the beach which had lovely tiny stones instead of sand, but was full of sandflies, which leave stinging bites for days!
Then we drove to Punakaiki and seen Pancake Rocks, which are rocks which look like pancakes it looked cool.
We went to a place called Greymouth and had a look around and bought stuff for our fancy dress party tonight. Then we arrived at our stop Lake Mahinapua. We went straight to the Lake which has awsome views of snowy mountains. We both jumped off the pier into the still, tea/ale coloured cold lake. The hotel called 'Poo Pub' is run by an 87 year old man named Les who has been accommodating Kiwi Experience busses every night for the past 16 years. We had a meal included in our stay which was cooked by Les and his wife, we had steak and potatoes, salad, pasta etc. After dinner we went to watch a gorgeous sunset at the beach, it was beautiful. Then it was time for our fancy dress party- the theme was 'bright and tight' Shan had silky boxers and leg warmers which he bought and I had my maxi dress and shiney stickers and Hawian flowers. We didnt win the prize but had a good night, even got involved in drinking games with a lovely couple (Bex and Rupert) from our bus as well as some of the teenagers. Got to bed before said teenagers started throwing up everywhere and some guy fell out his bunk bed in our room it was hilarious!!
