Packed up and left Queenstown early and embarked on our longest bus journey- 8 hours. We stopped off at Lake Tekapo for amazing views of Mt Cook, this time the sky was clear blue and the lake a gorgeous light blue. The lake is this colour due to the Tasman Glacier's mountain rocks grinding away creating what they call mountain flour.
We then drove through Mackenzie region, named after a notorious sheep farmer who made his sheep dog do his dirty work by rounding up and stealing other sheep. Mackenzie wasn't caught for years due to the fact he was always in the pub at the time with an alibi, it wasn't until it went to trial and he claimed the dog wasn't his- only for the dog to bound into the court room and jump up on Mackenzie.
We then carried on through what will be the last of the awesome views of hills and mountains, sheep and cows. And then we arrived back to where it all started in Christchurch. We had a lot of hours to kill before our flight which wasn't til 6am, so we had dinner, bought some souvenirs, watched our canyon swings on dvd and also watched Big Love (it's a good series but very odd). The time for the flight came around and the flight went by quite quickly and we had amazing views of New Zealand as we flew up and away.
We had a great time in New Zealand, the first week or so went slowly (in a good way) and then the rest flew in, and now we can't believe it's over already. We have seen such amazing views, listened to traditional Maori's, done a free fall from a canyon, stayed in far too many grotty bunk beds, drank lots of local beer, seen skyscrapers, flattened earthquake buildings, hills, mountains, sheep, cows, deers, seals, monkeys, giraffes, other random cross-bred animals, lakes, rivers, gorges, LOTR scenery, hot pools, boiling mud pools, smelled rotten eggs, caves, tubing, jet boats, old mines, coves, glow worms, golf, glaciers, rain, rain and sunshine. We will come back one day!!
